Our Story

Our mission is to equip home educated students with STEM tools to launch them into their future careers.

STEM Training was born out of a vision to take what we were learning as a home educating family and make it available to others.

S.T.E.M. is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The core philosophy is that these subjects are better taught together than in isolation.

“The goal is to provide just enough instruction and guidance to give students basic skills and then let them take charge of their own learning and discovery.”

Colleen Graves

WHO WE ARE

Firstly, we are a homeschool family just like you. We ended up following the STEM and STEAM path of education after we discovered that the classical education model was not going to work for our family. We are a Maker family and so STEM was a natural transition.

STEM is such a buzz word so we thought it would be easy to access resources but it was not an easy find. Some homeschool curriculum companies completely ignore science and technology, while others have limited programs. It was easy to find curriculum centered around history or language arts but a hands-on STEM-focused curriculum is rare. So STEM Training was born out of a vision to take what we were learning as a family and make it available to others. We realize not everyone has the same adventurous spirit our family has so we wanted to make STEM accessible to all.

WHAT WE DO

We do focus on S.T.E.M. but we don’t neglect Art and believe it has a valuable place in any STEM program. The reason it is not a primary focus, and this is not a STEAM based program, is that the definition can be unclear, distracting, and confusing.

We have adapted a holistic approach to education. We believe that STEM does not exclude literature, history, geography, and other traditional subjects. You will find that, just like in every day life, they are interwoven into every kit and Challenge. When education is approached from a holistic manner then all areas are explored and make sense. We don’t live in an abstract world so why are we educating in an abstract way?

We also approach science from a Creation perspective. We believe in Intelligent Creation and biblical principles.
